![]() Runewords come in varying lengths from 2-6 Runes, and must match the number of sockets exactly. There are a couple Runewords such as Spirit and Phoenix that are both Shield and Weapon runewords - they use the same runes, but have slightly different end properties. A Spear and a Polearm look similar but are separate weapon categories, so a Polearm Runeword will not work in a Spear. It gets more complicated when it calls for a specific weapon type. A Runeword for a weapon will not work as a Runeword for a piece of armor. The only exception to this is the item Wirt's Leg, which is not magical and often has sockets, but does not work with Runewords. Only grey-text gear items with sockets can accept Runewords ( Normal, Exceptional, Elite in any quality including Ethereal). Using Runewords is way to upgrade the quality of non-magic items to something that can be amazing. Magic, Magic Rare, Set, or Unique gear does not work with Runewords, even if it has the correct number of sockets. Runewords only work in non-Magic socketed gear. Classic players who prefer to play without the LoD expansion cannot use Runewords. Players must have the LoD expansion to use Runewords. These will be detailed above the tables of Runewords for this gear type. Some Weapons Runewords only apply to specific types. You can insert Runewords into the following types of non-magic gear: However, combining specific Runes in a particular order in the correct base item creates a Runeword, which packs on a number of other features, fundamentally changing the quality of the gear item. Runes all have great extra properties that you can add to socketed gear. These feature the best Runewords for getting a head start on leveling! There's no going back once you've put the Runes in, there's no removing them without destroying all your Runes. Runes must be inserted into the correct type of gear, in the correct order, or else it will not create a Runeword and give bonuses. Runewords must be created and inserted carefully into armor and the correct type of weapons. They are not usable for Classic players who choose not to use the expansion. Runewords are only available for players who are using the full Expansion mode of D2:R, which includes the Lord of Destruction (LoD) expansion. If you want to try the game out yourself, you can actually snag it right now on Steam for a whopping 99 cents. ![]() Taking a 3D fighting game and translating over to a 2D fighter is no easy feat, and Sega did a great job with it way back then. The strangest part about this whole thing is that Virtua Fighter 2 on the Genesis takes a prospect that is definitely difficult to pull off and does so surprisingly well - and clear back in 1997. Players can fire off over 30 moves by using various directional inputs in tandem with variations of punch and kick series, and doing so helps set up juggle combos that feel good and are definitely reminiscent of the 3D counterparts. Included on the 2D Virtua Fighter 2's roster are eight playable characters, and much like a 3D fighting game, each contender comes equipped with an extensive moveset. It takes a bit of adjusting to - since it's hard to break the idea that you're not fighting in three dimensions within a Virtua Fighter game - but it actually feels quite good when you're in the heat of battle, especially for a Sega Genesis fighting game. The movement options available to players are also fairly robust for a 2D fighter, with Virtua Fighter's high jumps still being a thing here, as well as the ability to crouch and advance, crouch and retreat, and more. A 2D remake of the game was released for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1997. It was created by Sega's Yu Suzuki -headed AM2 and was released in the arcade in 1994 and to the Sega Saturn in 1995. Punch and guard initiate a grab, and hitting the kick button repeatedly gives you variations that allow you to perform different moves. Virtua Fighter 2 is the sequel to Virtua Fighter and the second game in the Virtua Fighter series. Much like the Virtua Fighter we're used to, the Genesis version comes packed with a kick button, a punch, and a guard. Despite movement being limited to only the 2D plane, things feel surprisingly smooth. Pick a character and fight your way all the way to the top. This version completely ditches the three dimensional battle system and turns Virtua Fighter into a traditional 2D fighting game ala Street Fighter. On March 4, 1997, the 2D version of Virtua Fighter 2 saw its launch on the Genesis. But for those who couldn't afford Sega's more expensive hardware (the Saturn), a way to play Virtua Fighter would ultimately end up on the company's 16-bit console, the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. In December 1995, the 3D title made its way to the Sega Saturn in North America, bringing the arcade hit to home consoles. Sega AM2, the team behind its development, took roughly 12 months to get it wrapped up, and due to the game's head developer, Yu Suzuki, wanting to add texture to the graphics, the Sega Model 2 arcade system had to be built just to handle the project. The series is supposed to be 3D, with the exception of this game, which is.of course, 2D. As a result, while it’s relatively easy to make your way through the first three levels by fumbling with the virtual controls, the game becomes suddenly very challenging once you reach level four and your opponents get tougher. The original Virtua Fighter 2 saw its arcade release back in 1994. I don't know about their decisions, either, but Virtua Fighter 2 is one of those games that appear on both a new and old system (It's also for the Saturn). Landing punches and kicks doesn’t feel the same. The lack of tactile feedback that one enjoys on a real D-pad and buttons makes achieving the powerful combos required to drain your enemies of energy quite difficult. ![]() Filter by: All 8 Saturn 3 Arcade 1 PS2 1 PS3 1 Windows 1 Xbox 360 1. Virtua Fighter 2 (game, martial arts, fighting, 3D fighting). The graphics and sound are exactly what you would expect from a game that is fifteen years old Virtua Fighter 2 looks fuzzy-particularly on a Retina display-regardless of whether it is played in full-screen or original-size mode. The various bits and pieces required to make the game work with a touch-input device look like they have been pasted on the screen with little regard for their usefulness or effect that their position has on gameplay. The port is entirely faithful to its forefather-perhaps because it is exactly the same code running inside an emulator. As a result, this is a thoroughly bi-dimensional game, with 1990-style graphics and sound to boot. ![]() ![]() (Note: Default indexed data is located in the data folder.
